Get ready for HT Swimming and Diving season
From Jefferson County Journal staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — Grab your towels, caps and goggles, Hewitt-Trussville Swimming and Diving season will be here before you know it.
The team is open to rising seventh and twelfth graders. Interested athletes and parents should make plans to attend the informational meeting on May 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the HTHS Lecture Hall.
Head Coach Molly Jones is ready for the fun to begin.
“Swim team members are in general great kids,” said Jones. “Swimmers can participate in individual events as well as relays involving the team. All points awarded for both types of events go towards a team score which has led to us winning or placing high in meets in the past few years.”
The season begins and September and concludes with the State Championship the first weekend of December, but it is never too early for student-athletes to get started.
“Most of the swim team members are already swimmers at the YMCA or similar places,” said Jones. “Since we do not have team practices, I would highly recommend getting involved somewhere that you could practice at least a few times a week.”
Once the season starts, Huskies will have plenty of opportunity for greatness in the water while developing and nurturing, friendships that could last a lifetime.
“Multiple opportunities to qualify for sectionals and state,” said Jones. “In the past two years HT has started participating in Tuesday night meets in order to raise the chances for members to qualify for sectionals. Swim team members have enjoyed these meets and they have brought about not only more qualifying opportunities, but team bonding and friendships.”
