Suspect trying to outrun Homewood police crashes car and then attempts to kidnap laundry attendant

HOMEWOOD – On Tuesday, at 11:21 a.m., a Homewood police officer attempted to pull a man over for having a switched tag.  The suspect did not stop and a pursuit was initiated, according to Carol Robinson of Al.com.

The chase ended when the suspect collided with another motorist at the intersection of Green Springs Highway and Columbiana Road.  The suspect then exited the vehicle and escaped to the Palisades shopping center.

The suspect entered the Cleaners & Coin Laundry and grabbed laundromat attendant Jill Williams and attempted to take her to a back room.

The suspect, wounded from the crash and airbag deployment, collapsed.

Homewood medics transported the suspect to the UAB Hospital.

“It was scary. I looked up and all I saw was blood,” Williams said. “He grabbed my arm and tried to push me into the back room. I just reached out and closed the door.”

According to police the suspect was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen on August 28.  The police also advised that they have yet to identify the suspect, however he will be facing several charges such as receiving stolen property and possibly kidnapping.

“I’m just glad,” Williams said, “that nobody got hurt.”
