Jefferson County middle school student wants to get out of school, posts fake threat about school shooting to social media

JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Bragg Middle School student might be facing charges for using social media to post a threat against his school, according to Carol Robinson of Al.com.

On Thursday the student, claiming that he was reposting a statement made from another student, posted the comment, “I’m done with this school and all the people in it. Every day I get treated like (expletive) by people who I thought were my friends. So I’m shooting up the school tomorrow. I sent this to all the people I care about so don’t come.”

After becoming aware of the threat resource officers were able to locate the student.  He admitted to making up the threat in the hopes that his parents would keep him home on Friday.

As Jefferson County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Randy Christian explained, “He admitted to making the threat because he did not want to go to school today and thought his parents would be concerned over the threat and keep him home,” Christian said. “This was thoroughly investigated and there was never a credible threat or danger for anyone.”
