Great Harvest Bread’s grand opening set for Friday
The Montana-based company will open in Trussville on Friday.
Trussville residents can enjoy freshly baked, handmade breads, salads and sandwiches starting Friday, June 22, when local owners David and Jennifer Snyder celebrate the grand opening of their family-owned bakery, Great Harvest Bread Company.
The whole-grain bakery, which provides baked goods made from scratch, is located at 218 Main St. (next door to Dollar General) and offers a natural and wholesome new lunch location in addition to freshly baked breads and treats. This location is the first in Alabama.
Great Harvest bakeries, founded in 1976 in Montana, grind wheat berries from Montana using a classic stone mill into whole-wheat flour. This daily process provides freshness, nutrition and flavor to their breads, made without additives and preservatives.
Great Harvest is about embracing the surrounding communities, said the Snyders. And that is exactly what they are doing with local businesses, Higher Ground and Slag Heap Brewery.
David Snyder shared the bakery’s plans to use the local brew from the Slag Heap Brewing Company as an ingredient in their beer bread.
“We have coffee out of Higher Ground, which is located in the Homewood area,” said Snyder. “They roast fair trade coffee in sustainable forest throughout the world. We will offer different blends and be able to grind the beans as well.”
While the community is anticipating the bakery’s oven on Friday, Snyder said the team is putting their ovens to the test.
“We are continuing to work to perfect the art with the tools and resources that we have,” he said.
Friday’s grand opening will offer a special promotion to the community — buy one sandwich, get one free.
“We are really excited to be serving the community,” said Snyder. “We will have an array of products displayed including our breads, dog treats, pancake mixes, and ready to cook at home products which are made from scratch here at the store.”
Great Harvest’s stationary breads offered throughout the year include Honey Whole Wheat, Farmhouse White, Dakota, and Cinnamon Bread. Seasonal breads are Everything Bread, Cinnamon Raisin, Cranberry Orange, and Garlic Cheddar Bread. Snyder added that there will be other one-off items including jellies and dipping oils.
The new Trussville bakery will be open daily, Monday through Saturday (closed Sunday), from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, follow the bakery on Facebook at “Great Harvest Bread Co Trussville, Al” or on their website at greatharvesttrussville.com.
