BJCTA fires suspended Executive Director Barbara Murdock
Murdock was suspended for allegedly using a BJCTA credit card to pay personal expenses.
Barbara Murdock, the suspended head of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority, was fired by the authority’s board of directors Wednesday afternoon, AL.com reports.
The board’s lone dissenting vote, Patrick Sellers, said that Murdock was not given “due process” and was “suspended without telling her what she was suspended for.” Two other board members, Ted Smith and Darryl Cunningham, abstained from the vote.
Murdock was suspended in April for allegedly using a BJCTA credit card to pay for personal expenses, including a power bill. The state attorney general’s office is currently investigating these claims.
Interim executive director Christopher Ruffin, who took over following Murdock’s suspension in April, will remain the BJCTA’s acting director.
