Campaign claims about sewer rates are “misinformation,” commission says
Sewer rate increases will not exceed 3.49 percent, says commission president.
Members of the Jefferson County Commission are firing back against complaints made by their opponents in the June 5 primary election, BirminghamWatch reports.
Commissioners said that claims that sewer rates have increased by 40 percent are incorrect. Commission President Jimmie Stephens said instead that sewer rate increases “from this point forward will be 3.49 percent.”
“Expenses are in line and looking good too,” he said. “There is surplus being added to our sewer account each year. There will not be any non-user fees and there will not be any sewer rate increases exceeding 3.49 percent as long as this trend continues.”
The primary election — which sees all commission members except David Carrington seeking re-election — will take place on June 5.
