Family of Huffman High student sues school, City of Birmingham for her death
Courtlin Arrington’s family says that the school could have prevented the gun that killed her from entering the school.
The family of a Huffman High student who was shot and killed at the school have sued the principal, Superintendent Lisa Herring, and the city of Birmingham for her wrongful death, WBHM reports.
Courtlin Arrington, 17, was shot and killed by another student, Michael Barber, after he brought a gun to school. His attorney said Barber was showing Arrington the gun when it accidentally fired.
In the lawsuit, the Arrington family say that the principal and superintendent put the victim and other students in danger by not using the school’s metal detectors. The family is requesting a jury trial and punitive damages.
