Amazon fulfillment center could be headed to Bessemer
Tech company looks to build new warehouse, which would create up to 3,000 jobs.
It was codenamed “Project Bluebird,” but now it has a real name: Amazon.
The Birmingham Business Journal reports that the tech giant is strongly considering opening a fulfillment center in Bessemer, which could create anywhere between 1,500 and 3,000 new jobs.
The Jefferson County Commission is remaining tight-lipped about the project, which it originally referred to only as “Project Bluebird,” refusing to specifically name Amazon while negotiations are ongoing. But Commission President Jimmie Stephens said in a statement that “an attractive incentive package [from Bessemer] has been favorably received by the unnamed company.”
“The process continues and we should have an announcement in the next 30-45 days,” he said.
