Mountain Brook citizens will get a chance to speak out about the potential relocation of the city’s only post office during a public hearing this afternoon. The hearing, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, follows the announcement by the United States Postal Service last month that it was considering moving the post office, which is currently located in Mountain Brook Village.

Mountain Brook City Manager Sam Gaston speculated to AL.com that the post office could return to the redeveloped Lane Parke or potentially be consolidated with Birmingham’s Crestline branch.

This afternoon’s meeting will see the USPS outlining the reasons behind the potential move before taking questions from attendees.

In an email sent Thursday afternoon, Mountain Brook Mayor Stewart Welch called on citizens to attend to “save our post office.”

“We need everyone who is interested in keeping the post office in Mtn. Brook to show up and be heard,” he wrote.

The meeting is scheduled for this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Mountain Brook City Hall (56 Church St.).
