Langford, a former Birmingham mayor, is serving a 15-year sentence in federal prison in Lexington, Kentucky. His release date is set for 2023.
According to a press release, from the Langford family on Monday, the 72-year-old “is suffering from several illnesses including in-stage pulmonary disease, influenza and heart failure. In a letter dating Nov. 2, 2018, the Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons recognized that he is considered to be experiencing deteriorating physical health that substantially diminishes his ability to function in a correctional facility. (The letter) further stated that he met the criteria for a reduction in sentence via a compassionate release, however his request was denied because his release at the time would minimize the severity of his offense and pose a danger to the safety of the community.”
On Thursday Beverly Langford weeted a message to Kardashian in the hopes that she would be willing to help the family.
“I’m praying with all my heart that this works.” Beverly Langford tweeted. “I’m sorry to bother you Mrs. West. I’m hoping that you get this in time. My name is Beverly Langford. I’m from Birmingham, Al. My uncle Larry Langford is dying in federal prison. Help for compassionate release please?”
Kardashian has prior experience in a similar matter. According to CBS News she helped convince President Donald Trump to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a grandmother serving life in prison for a non violent drug offense.
