ARGO — Carter Antiques, whom had their grand opening on Dec. 1, is one of this communities most unique destinations for the thing you always wanted but didn’t knew where to find.

Their beautiful new location boasts an assortment of furniture that includes everything from Victorian, to mid century modern to contemporary pieces and even primitive farm tables that co-owner Mike Carter, a talented carpenter in his own right, makes himself.

Furniture includes, but is not limited to, tables, desks, secretaries, trunks, chairs, beds, vanities, mirrors, high-chests, low-chests, side tables and mattresses.

The store, however, offers so much more than furniture.  Everywhere you walk there are books; they also carry antique tools, record albums, pocket knives, watches, typewriters, and a whole section devoted to creating the perfect “man cave”, which includes another Carter original creation.

“This is something I do, this another one of my things here.” Carter said of his handiwork. “I take an old tailgate, it is a ’52 Ford tailgate, and I put the bench and the tag and the lights on it, for your man cave.”

For owners Mike and Wanda Carter, the store is more than just a business.

“Our grandson said, ‘why are you doing this? You’re retired.’” Said Wanda Carter. “We like to work, we’ve always worked. We’d rather be working than laying in a recliner watching TV.

Evidence that Carter Antiques is a labor of love can be seen in every corner and every nook of the store.  It can be seen in the care in which the items are displayed, it can be seen in the way that items are selected and cared for before they are presented to the public.  It can be felt when Mike and Wanda Carter share their store with you.

Carter Antiques is located at 1935 Highway 11 in Argo.  They are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
