UAB Campus on alert after high-speed chase and crash with a DUI suspect
BIRMINGHAM – Alerts were raised on the UAB campus after a high-speed chase along Interstate 65, involving a DUI suspect, ended with a crash near the university; according to Carol Robinson of Al.com.
Trooper Cpl. Steve Smith advised that a pursuit began on Interstate 459 at U.S. 31 while the unknown subject was driving a Hyundai Accent at excessive speeds. It has also been reported that the suspect was holding a beer his hand while driving.
Pursuit continued onto I-65 where the individual exited at University Boulevard and crashed the vehicle at an intersection. The suspect continued on foot.
An alert from UAB was issued: “Threat to campus. Shelter in place. Officers are searching for a DUI suspect B/M, 6’00, blue jeans, black shirt in the area of 1201 University Boulevard.”
An all-clear was released shortly after 11:30 a.m.
