Senator Doug Jones to host town hall meeting in Hoover on Saturday
Jones will likely discuss his bipartisan proposal to delay President Trump’s 25-percent tariff on imported cars, trucks, and auto parts.
Senator Doug Jones will be in Hoover on Saturday, July 28, to host a constituent town hall meeting.
The meeting will take place at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, located at 100 Ben Chapman Drive, starting at 3 p.m. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
The event is open to the public and media, though space will be limited.
Earlier today, Jones toured the Mercedes and Hyundai manufacturing plans in Vance and Montgomery, respectively. That follows his introduction of a bipartisan bill — along with Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee) — to delay President Donald Trump’s recently proposed 25-percent tariff on imported cars, trucks, and auto parts. “These tariffs are a tax on American consumers and they’re going to cost Alabama jobs,” Jones said in a statement. “I share the President’s goal to reinvigorate manufacturing and secure trade deals that benefit our country, but not at the expense of Alabama’s biggest job creators.”
Jones took office earlier this year after defeating Roy Moore to fill the Senate seat vacated by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He is Alabama’s first Democratic Senator in more than 20 years, and has spent much of his first term focusing on finding bipartisan “common ground.”
