Birmingham police arrest robbery suspects that attempted to run over officer
The suspects were charged with attempted murder and first degree robbery.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, two suspects have been arrested and warrants obtained against them after they tried to run over an officer, striking two patrol cars.
The incident occurred at around 12:25 on Thursday, July 19, when officers from the North Precinct responded to a report of a citizen being robbed of a vehicle at Ninth Avenue North in Birmingham. Afterwards they located the vehicle at the 800 block of Fifth Street North.
“After the suspect pulled from the roadway, officers managed to corner the suspects,” said BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams in a statement. “Officers attempted to approach the vehicle but the suspect attempted to flee in the vehicle by driving over the curb. As the suspect pulled from the scene, he attempted to run over an officer, then intentionally struck two approaching patrol vehicles.”
The suspects were both taken into custody. They were identified as Reontay Harley, 26, and Warderrius Twilley, 25, both of Birmingham.
Warrants were obtained against Harley, charging him with robbery in the first degree and attempting to elude, as well as two attempted murder warrants. He was hospitalized after the collision and will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail after release.
Warrants against Twilley charged him with robbery in the first degree and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm as well as an attempting to elude warrant. He is being transferred from Birmingham City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail.
