Birmingham City Council to discuss parking ticket amnesty program, Shipt incentives at Tuesday’s meeting
Shipt has asked for $1.762 million in city incentives to “maintain and grow its headquarters in the city.”
The Birmingham City Council is slated to discuss a parking ticket amnesty program and incentives for the expansion of grocery delivery company Shipt at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
According to an agenda for the July 10 meeting, the council will discuss an ordinance, recommended by Mayor Randall Woodfin, “to establish an amnesty program for the payment of certain outstanding minor traffic, parking, and non-moving violation tickets from July 17, 2018 through September 17, 2018.”
The council will also consider incentives for the online grocery delivery company Shipt, which is currently headquartered in the John A. Hand Building at 17 20th St. N. The company has requested $1.762 million from the city in order to “maintain and grow its headquarters in the city.” That amount will be payable over five years, according to the agenda, on the basis of $2,000 for each new employee the company adds. That funding will be used by Shipt as reimbursement for use of the city’s newly developed Talent Investment Program, Talent Acceleration Program, and Talent Optimization Program.
