Man arrested in Center Point after chase, heroin found in sunglasses case
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man during a traffic stop that led to a brief foot chase
A man was arrested on multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to run from deputies during a traffic stop, according to the Jefferson County sheriff’s office.
After 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, a deputy in Center Point conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Charger for a tag violation. As deputies were speaking to the driver, the passenger left the vehicle and fled on foot.
After a brief foot chase, deputies caught him several blocks away. He was later identified as Noveian Gardiner, 26. According to the sheriff’s office, he allegedly tossed a sunglasses case on the ground as he fled. Deputies recovered the case and found marijuana and a “trafficking amount” of heroin inside.
Gardiner has been charged with trafficking heroin, unlawful possession of marijuana, attempting to elude and resisting arrest. He was found to have two outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on charges of heroin trafficking and obstructing justice.
He is being held at Jefferson County Jail without bond.
