Bessemer county jail to be shut down for nearly 7 months

BESSEMER — The Bessemer county jail will be closed from Feb. 22 to Sept. 19 for repairs and renovations.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office the repairs are necessary to continue safe and secure living conditions at the jail.
Officials said that prisoners from the Bessemer county jail will be housed at the Birmingham county jail. The Bessemer jail will be open for modified operations Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for Bessemer court cases. The prisoners will be brought to Bessemer each day and taken back to the Birmingham jail after court proceedings.
