Breaking ground in Bessemer, new Amazon center gets one step closer
BESSEMER – On Tuesday Governor Kay Ivey and several officials from Bessemer and Jefferson County were on hand for the groundbreaking of the new Amazon Fulfillment Center, according to WBRC.
Expectations are that the new facility will be fully on-line by July of 2019.
The new center is 855,000 square feet and will ship out small items.
Ryan Lively, of Amazon, said that Bessemer was chosen because, “Obviously, we look to be close to our customer base. Succeed in getting the customer their product,” said Ryan Lively with Amazon.
The new facility is promising to employ 1,500 people. Local leaders are hopeful that the number can be doubled.
