Arrest made in Calera High School threat, police nab 15-year-old boy

CALERA – Police have arrested a Calera High School student after school shooting threats circulated on social media late on Wednesday night, according to Carol Robinson of Al.com.

Chief Sean Lemley, of the Calera Police department, has advised that the 15-year-old is facing a charge for making a terrorist threat.  Authorities will not be releasing the name of the suspect as he is underage.

The text read: “This is an anonymous text to tell you Calera High School will be shot up @12. I’m warning as many people possible. May god be with you.” It was then circulated multiple times on Facebook.

“This information was thoroughly investigated throughout the night and involved the assistance of the FBI,” Lemley also said. “We have made contact of with those involved in circulating the text.”

“While we will continue to take this case seriously, we do not believe this to be a credible,” he said. “However, we will maintain an increased presence at the schools while we continue to investigate this case.”
