TUSCALOOSA – A suspect has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after an incident in which he allegedly dragged a Tuscaloosa police officer and struck another Tuscaloosa police officer with his vehicle, according to WIAT 42, on Tuesday night.

According to K.T. Hart, a police captain with the Tuscaloosa Police Department, an officer was investigating suspicious activity in the parking lot for Snow Hinton Park.  He approached a vehicle containing two people, the park is closed 10 p.m., and determined that criminal activity may have been taking place.

After back up arrived the officers removed the passenger and detained him.

When officers removed the driver, and started to handcuff him, he managed to get back into his vehicle and drove off.  In doing so he dragged one officer for approximately 20 yards.  In addition to that he hit the other officer and a police cruiser while departing the area.

The second officer to arrive on scene fired at the vehicle as it fled.

The suspect later turned himself in.  He has been identified as Demetrius Denzel Horton and has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of assault in the second degree, one count of escape in the third and leaving the scene of an accident.
