Birmingham launches “Open Checkbook” website to boost government transparency
The resource fulfills “a campaign promise of a transparent government,” says Mayor Randall Woodfin.
Birmingham’s city government has created a new web portal which allows public access to its detailed financial reports, according to BirminghamWatch.
The portal, titled Open Checkbook, is a fulfillment of a “campaign promise of a transparent government,” Mayor Randall Woodfin said in a statement. “I encourage everyone to visit the portal and see exactly how we’re directing our resources to make Birmingham stronger.”
Open Checkbook provides links to the city’s annual budgets, neighborhood allocations, the individual transactions of each department, and more.
