JeffCo Sheriff’s Office seizes 10,000 doses of heroin at Bessemer home

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office seized 10,000 doses of heroin were seized from a Bessemer man’s home on Tuesday, July 17, charging him with multiple drug-related offenses. More than one kilogram of heroin and 224 grams of methamphetamine were taken from the residence.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office learned that a “large amount” of heroin was being kept at the 1800 block of 11th Street North in Bessemer. While surveilling the house, investigators saw Christopher Moton, 38, driving away. He was stopped and was found to have a gun.

Because he had been convicted on a felony before, he could not legally own a firearm. Moton was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

“Investigators returned to the home and conducted a search,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “During this search, they discovered a kilogram of heroin and 224 grams of methamphetamine. The street value of the seizure is approximately $218,000. A typical dose unit of heroin is .1 grams. This seizure is the equivalent of 10,000 dose units of heroin taken off the streets of Jefferson County.”

Moton has been charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking methamphetamine, certain person forbidden to possess a firearm, carrying a pistol without license, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2,018,000.
