Homewood City Council denies subdivision proposal

Arguments against the proposed development focused on traffic and parking problems that the new houses would cause.

The Homewood City Council voted on July 23 to deny a developer’s request to turn a 2-acre property into a 12-home subdivision, Over the Mountain Journal reports.

The meeting saw 18 people speaking against the development, which would have been located at the corner of Saulter Road and Carr Avenue. Some argued against the quantity of houses and the increased traffic and parking problems that they would bring.

The council voted against rezoning the property to allow for the subdivision.

John Kessler, the head of developer Kessler Homes, said he would resurvey the property in question into eight new lots. A discussion on that resurveying will take place at the August 7 planning commission meeting.
