Victim identified in Birmingham shooting death, suspect arrested
Police say the July 3 shooting was the result of an argument.
An arrest has been made in the case of a July 3 shooting death in Birmingham. The identities of both the victim and the suspect were released by the Birmingham Police Department.
At around 8:30 p.m. on July 3, officers from the West Precinct responded to a report of a person shot on 111 Avenue V. When they arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue but was later pronounced dead.
The victim was identified as Terry Ledaye Mitchell, 38, of Birmingham. Police have arrested Deron Marquez Belser, 32, of Birmingham and obtained a manslaughter warrant against him. He is now in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the BPD, the incident was a result of an argument between the victim and the suspect. Belser was located by the BPD’s crime reduction team.
