Birmingham council approves funding for increased school security
Birmingham City Schools will receive millions in funding for metal detectors, after-school programs, and more.
The Birmingham City Council voted Tuesday to approve over $1 million in “school security” measures, BirminghamWatch reports. Those measures will include 14 walk-through metal detectors, 20 handheld scanners, and alarm systems. The specific schools slated to receive these items has not yet been made public.
The council also approved $665,000 in funding for after-school programs and money for library books and musical equipment for W.E. Putnam Middle School.
