Birmingham mayor’s office names first LGBTQ liason
Central Alabama Pride Vice President Josh Coleman will serve as spokesman and advocate for the city’s LGBTQ community.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin announced this weekend that his office had fulfilled his campaign promise to create the new position of LGBTQ liaison. Josh Coleman will take on the position starting June 25, serving as a spokesperson for the city and an advocate for LGBTQ issues.
Woodfin made the announcement at Sunday’s PrideFest. “Birmingham is the city that taught the world the importance of inclusion,” he said. “Josh will help us continue to uphold that legacy of equality by ensuring that all of our citizens have a voice in this administration.”
Coleman currently serves as vice president of the nonprofit organization Central Alabama Pride. He has also volunteered with the Human Rights Campaign, a national committeeman for the Alabama Young Democrats, and a board member of the Greater Birmingham Democrats.
“This is the next step in Mayor Woodfin’s commitment to having an open, fair, and inclusive city,” Coleman said.
