Hoover City Council anticipating budget deficits
Despite higher-than-expected revenue and lower-than-expected expenses, budget shortfalls could lie ahead.
The Hoover City Council spent Thursday evening’s meeting discussing ways to combat projected budget deficits, the Hoover Sun reports. Despite higher-than-expected revenue and lower-than-expected expenses, finance committee head John Lyda said that expenses overall have gone up since the election of Mayor Frank Brocato and the current city council in 2016.
Decreases in sales tax revenue resulting from online retailers has disproportionately affected Hoover as well, said Councilman Mike Shaw, citing a study done by investment management consulting firm Porter, White and Co.
