A man from Bessemer has been charged in a murder and robbery that took place on April 13, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Trussville Tribune reports.
Horace Earl Jackson, 32, was charged in the murder and robbery of a man that has been identified as Jeremy Davis, 38, who died after being shot on Salina Avenue in an unincorporated part of the county. Deputies were called to the Midfield Police Department to respond to a report of a body found in a car located at a parking lot.
An initial report said that Davis was being driven to the scene to buy marijuana and was shot by an unknown suspect.
However, detectives later learned that Jackson called Davis to the avenue. Davis was driven by another person to the location where he and Jackson began an argument. Jackson allegedly drew a gun and shot Davis before robbing the driver of his cell phone and wallet.
The case was reviewed on April 18 with the District Attorney’s Office, which issued warrants charging Jackson with murder and robbery in the first degree. According to the sheriff’s office, he had outstanding felony warrants charging him with probation violations and failure to appear in court on prior drug charges.
Jackson turned himself in to the Jefferson County Jail on April 19. He remains at the jail without bond.
