JeffCo Commission approves incentives package for Amazon
The deal to bring a fulfillment center to Bessemer is less than two weeks from completion, commissioners say.
Amazon is one step closer to building a new, $325 million fulfillment center in Bessemer. On Thursday, the Jefferson County Commission voted to approve an incentives package of up to $3.3 million in roadway improvements and capital investment reimbursements for the company, AL.com reports.
The state of Alabama and Alabama Power are both offering incentives to Amazon as well. The Bessemer City Council will vote next Tuesday on an incentives package that will include quarterly reimbursements to Amazon over the next 10 years.
Commissioner David Carrington said he anticipates the deal to be finalized in the next 10 days. Earlier this week, he said that the potential fulfillment center was the result of the county’s campaign to bring Amazon’s second headquarters to Birmingham.
