JeffCo Commission and Bessemer City Council to consider incentives for Amazon

County and city to plan on road projects and capital reimbursements to lure company to Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Commission and the Bessemer City Council will soon consider an incentive agreement with Amazon as part of an ongoing effort to convince the company to locate its new fulfillment center in the county, the Birmingham Business Journal reports.

Jefferson County’s incentive agreement would involve spending $3.3 million on roadway improvements, as well as reimbursing Amazon for part of the fulfillment center’s building costs.

Bessemer’s potential agreement would similarly pay for part of the building costs — but through quarterly payments over the next decade, based on the number of full-time employees. Bessemer would also limit all permit fees to $200,000.

Incentives from the state are also expected but have not been announced.
