Hoover may have to raise taxes to deal with financial challenges
Mayor Frank Brocato has not yet made an official recommendation.
Hoover city officials said Tuesday night that the city is facing financial challenges and may need to raise a variety of taxes to address them, the Hoover Sun reports.
Potential increases, according to City Treasurer Robert Yeager, could be applied to the city’s property tax, rental tax, lodging tax, a new occupational tax, or the sales and use tax. Another option could be to charge Hoover residents for garbage services.
These options, said Councilor John Lyda, would be meant “to deal in some form or fashion with revenue.”
Mayor Frank Brocato said he had not yet decided which of those options to recommend, but that he would make his official recommendation on June 4.
