Alabama law protecting Confederate monuments voided by Judge

BIRMINGHAM — An Alabama law that prevented the removal of Confederate monuments from public property was overturned by a judge on Monday, according to ABC 33/40.
ABC 33/40 reported Jefferson County Circuit Judge Michael Graffeo ruled that not allowing for the removal, or alteration, of the monuments was a violation of the free speech rights of those that are in the community.
An appeal of the judge’s ruling can still be appealed, according to ABC 33/40.
Two years ago a suit was brought against the city of Birmingham by the state after municipal officials attempted to remove a memorial that had been erected to honor Confederate veterans.
