Center Point Chamber of Commerce luncheon to feature an original “Rosie the Riveter”

CENTER POINT – The Center Point Area Chamber of Commerce will be holding a luncheon at Center Point City Hall on Dec. 11.  The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $15 to attend.

The luncheon will feature Dr. Fran Tunnell Carter as the guest speaker.

Carter was one of the original Rosie the Riveters.  A native of Mississippi, Fran taught elementary school on a “defense certificate” during World War II, having completed two years of junior college.

Wanting to do more for the war effort, she relocated to Birmingham, Alabama in 1943 to become a riveter on B-29 airplanes at the Bechtel-McCone-Parsons Airplane Modification Plant.

In 1998, she began the American Rosie the Riveter Association, which has grown to include 6,000 members in all 50 states.

Fran and her husband, John, taught at Samford University for 28 years.

Please RSVP by Dec. 7 if you plan to attend at centerpointchamber@gmail.com or call 853-9711.  Also, please bring a Christmas gift for the Center Point Fire District Angel Tree program in lieu of a door prize.
