New police headquarters slated to open at UAB
The $8 million facility will celebrate its opening on August 9.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham will be getting a new, $8 million police headquarters next month, the Birmingham Business Journal reports.
The new facility is slated to open on August 9. The previous UAB Police Department headquarters were opened in the early 1970s. “It served our department well, but it had seen its time,” said UAB Police Chief Anthony Purcell.
The new building will be located on 14th Street South and will include staff offices, a weight room, locker rooms, an emergency call center, and more. The site of the former police department will be used for parking.
