The confrontation took place at in the parking lot at Parker High School.
A carjacking ended today after two suspects crashed into two Birmingham Police vehicles, leaving one officer injured.
According to AL.com, the incident began with a carjacking of a Jeep on Ninth Avenue North in the Smithfield community. An officer who was canvassing the area spotted the stolen Jeep and called for backup.
Sgt. Johnny Williams said that, because the officer did not want the suspects to flee the scene, he did not use his emergency lights nor sirens. Soon afterward, the suspects pulled into the parking lot at Parker High School and the police followed behind.
Williams said that the suspects tried to run over the initial officer who had followed them to the parking lot, sideswiped the officer’s cruiser, then struck the other cruiser head on. One officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
