Prepare for Tuesday’s runoff elections with this voter guide
BirminghamWatch has a detailed list of candidates for both parties.
Election season in Alabama continues with Tuesday, July 17’s runoff, which will solidify the roster of nominees in several state- and countywide elections. BirminghamWatch has a detailed voter guide of all the candidates up for election, which includes candidates’ platforms and campaign contributors.
Republicans statewide will vote to nominate their party’s candidates for offices including lieutenant governor, attorney general, agriculture and industries commissioner, and a handful of judgeships.
Democrats’ races skew more local, with runoffs happening for the offices of sheriff, circuit clerk, two county commission seats, and one state representatives’ seat.
Both commission races feature Birmingham city councilors as candidates; Lashunda Scales is challenging incumbent George F. Bowman, Sr. for his district 1 seat, while Sheila Tyson challenges incumbent Sandra Little Brown for the district 2 seat. A victory for either Scales or Tyson would trigger an election to fill their city council seat. (Districts 1 and 2 have no Republican candidates.)
