Shipt seeks $1.76 million to grow Birmingham headquarters
The company is also seeking $720,000 in incentives from the Jefferson County Commission.
Grocery delivery company Shipt is looking to expand its headquarters in Birmingham — and it’s requesting $1.762 million from the city in order to do so, AL.com reports. The company, which was bought by Target last year for $550 million, is seeking another $720,000 from Jefferson County government, to be paid in three installments.
The costs are intended to attract “talent in tough-to-recruit occupations and the development and of promotion of full-time employees,” according to a legal notice published in the Birmingham News. The company did not provide specific information to AL.com about those positions.
The Birmingham City Council will consider the incentives at its July 10 meeting; the Jefferson County Commission will consider its incentives two days later.
